Call for entries: Dover Now and Tomorrrow exhibition
What do you think of Dover now and what would you like the town to be like in the future? Artists, sculptors, model-makers, poets, musicians and writers are invited to contribute their record of today’s Dover – good and bad – and their ideas for Dover’s future, to an exhibition that can help inspire future improvements to the town. Work demonstrating how particular places in Dover could change (for example as a ‘before and after’ view) would be especially exciting.
Dover is being given £1 million funding for community led regeneration through Big Local. This is because the town is one of 150 communities that have been identified as having had the least success in getting projects funded by the National Lottery.
Dover Big Local is a group of volunteers who are getting the message out that funding is available and organising how the money will be distributed. Dover Big local needs to know how Dover people want to use the money.
(See http://www.doverbiglocal.org ). Dover residents are welcome to attend Dover Big Local meetings – see the website for dates and venue.
In the future it will be valuable to be able to look back and see the progress Dover has made. We hope that the work contributed to the Dover Now and Tomorrow exhibition will provide a record of Dover today. Work can explore people’s feelings about the town or respond to its natural and built environment. Artists’ and makers’ ideas about Dover’s future will be added to a pool of ideas being considered for funded projects.
You do not need to be an experienced artist or maker to take part. All mediums are acceptable including painting and drawing, photography, textiles, sculpture, model-making, video and sound (music or installations).
We want to include artists’ ideas in the Big Local plan and share them so by entering work into the exhibition participants agree that their work may be photographed or reproduced for inclusion on the Dover Big Local website without payment. Participants also agree that whole or parts of designs or ideas may be included in Big Local projects in consultation with the creator of the idea. All copyright remains with the artist or maker.
Journals for recording ideas for Dover Big Local projects are being distributed to Dover Schools. Public journals will also be available and will be launched at this exhibition. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to contribute your ideas by drawing, writing or scrapbooking in a journal. The Dover Big Local map will also be in the gallery during the exhibition so you can pinpoint any areas of specific interest and add your ideas to the Big Local.
The exhibition will be hung on 19th August so the last date to bring work to the WCCG Project Space upstairs at the Charlton Centre, High Street, Dover will be 17th August. The Centre is open Tue, Wed, Fri & Sat 10am – 4pm. Please download an entry form from (avaiable here soon) to accompany your work. Work may be for sale if artists/makers wish and 20% commission on sale is payable to the centre. All work should be clearly labelled with a name, address and price (if for sale) on the reverse.
Dover Now and Tomorrow will formally open on Saturday 24th August and will be on display until Saturday 28th September.
